Where am I off to this week?

From Chicago, Illinois, I headed to Madworks Coworking in Madison, Wisconsin.

    Where is it?

So why did I choose Madworks Coworking?

Because of this quote from their website:

“We know how to have fun and get work done! If you’re looking for affordable office space and free parking in a convenient, West Madison location, visit Madworks Coworking.”

I’m always happy to visit a place with people who express a desire to work and play hard. It is important to keep life balanced.

I’m also interested in continuing to learn more about spaces that are not in the middle of town — they always have a different dynamic.

From the outside, the building looks like it’s modern business park surroundings and shares a building with other traditional businesses.

When I first got there, one of the coworkers helped me find some coffee and get connected to the internet. Later in the day, Andrew gave me a tour. There were plenty of desks, both dedicated and shared, and also an area for hanging out or holding meetings in comfortable chairs. The space does not have individual offices and they don’t plan to add them. They believe that having an open floor plan helps consistently bring people together.

It has a ridiculously fast, 1 gigabit internet connection!

Andrew has taken it upon himself to be the ambassador of the office. He helps manage the vibe, shows off the space to potential new members, and supports existing members with whatever they might need. For me, every space needs an Andrew type — helpful and supportive of all the office members and their needs. He also had some fantastic recommendations for Madison restaurants and bars.

Andrew and the Madworks Coworking team have created an office with it’s own feel and environment that is completely different than the traditional business park space it occupies.

Part of the fun of the place is that they have a keg! This was only tapped on Friday, but it was a nice thing to look forward to at the end of the week.

Of all the places I have visited, this office had the most consistent pool of members working on a daily basis.

It was remarkable to see. Everyone was there at a certain time and stayed as long as they needed to each day. You don’t always see this type of consistency in other coworking spaces, but it was refreshing to see how these consistent schedules affected the office vibe.

The week is looking like it’s going to be a great one. I might even be able to explore a second space in Madison before I go. Stay tuned!
